My name is Trijntje Sanders-Visser, 38 years old and I live together with my husband, three children, two cats and a dog in Gieterveen, a small village in the province of Drenthe (NL). We have been living there for two years now in a notary's house from 1909. Such an old house naturally requires major renovations, which we are still working on. When we bought this house it even had two house numbers, because it was once occupied by two tenants. It really showed on the inside, so there was plenty of work to be done. Fortunately, we both love DIY.
My interior is cool and minimalistic. To make sure it doesn't look cold but cozy I like to add natural materials in the house, for example linen pillows, wooden stools, wool plaids etcetera. Those plaids are spread throughout the house, sometimes to my husband's annoyance.
In our living area with open kitchen, we have a floor of smooth concrete, quite a dark floor of course, but here there are ten large windows, so there is plenty of daylight coming in on the otherwise white or light gray walls. In addition, the floor next to the black of the kitchen seems much lighter. So I play around with the color palette, always ending up with natural tones (often in shades of gray, sand, white and black).
